History
Students On Target (SOT) began in the fall of 1997 as an innovative program with representatives from all across campus including LSU Student Government, Student Media, Student Initiatives, Union Program Council, and the Wellness Education Department. Over the years SOT has been shuffled through many different departments but today finds its home in Student Government.
The organization is open to all LSU students interested in making a difference in the campus social culture. Students on Target attempts to work with other campus organizations including the Residence Hall Association and Greek organizations to help create an even larger positive impact on the entire student body at Louisiana State University.
Throughout the year, SOT hosts a wide variety of events and programs that are aimed at encouraging a healthy lifestyle through alcohol awareness. From give-a-ways in Free Speech Alley to a large outdoor concert featuring national talent, SOT really looks to promote safe decisions.
Groovin' on the Grounds
Groovin’ on the Grounds, coordinated by Students On Target (SOT), is one of the most anticipated events of the spring semester. Building up to the evening concert is an all day wellness festival, which features multiple booths with food and activities as well as large air inflatable slides and games. Around sunset, the games are taken away and music pulsates through the Parade Ground.
With past acts such as Three-Six Mafia, Better Than Ezra, Gin Blossoms, Chevelle, and Marc Broussard, Groovin' not only provides "a good time not wasted" for LSU students but also to the community.
Battle of the Bands
The 2008 Battle of the Bands was held on Friday, October 10th, at 7PM on Tower Drive in front of the Union.
